Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ’s
Do I need to send you my photo?
No, we actually prefer to work from a high-quality scan of your original photo. This helps minimise the risk of damage or loss during transit.
Do you only work with original photo?
No. While working from the original print is ideal, we can also work with digital photos, social media downloads, or even old, low-quality prints and published images.
Can you improve the original photo?
Yes! In many cases, we can correct issues affecting the original, such as exposure, focus, or colour balance.
Can you enlarge a very small photo for a large print?
Absolutely. We can create high-quality enlargements suitable for framing, even from low-quality social media downloads or older, low-resolution digital images — all while preventing pixelation in the final print.
Can you bring back lost detail?
Yes. With the help of advanced A.I. technology, we can recover details lost in the original photo or during previous printing processes.
Can you restore, print, and frame my photo?
While we do not directly offer printing or framing services, we work closely with a trusted local business that specialises in mail-order prints and framing. We can supply your restored images to them in a professional format, ready for printing and framing according to your requests.
Someone already tried to restore the copy of the photo I was given, and it’s not very good — can you make it better?
While working from the original is always preferred, it is often still possible to significantly improve a poorly edited or previously restored image.
My favourite photo looks great on screen, but when I print it, it comes out blocky — can you help?
Yes, absolutely. What you’re seeing is a common issue: images made for screens are usually small and low-quality to keep file sizes internet-friendly. However, printing requires larger, higher-quality files. Photos that were originally print-quality often lose detail when uploaded to social media, which compresses them heavily. We can work with these images to create new, enlarged, and enhanced versions that are suitable for high-quality printing.
I used to print my own digital pictures years ago, but now they’ve faded or gone strange colours — and I no longer have the digital copies. Can you help?
Yes, this is a very common issue. Early inkjet printers were impressive for home use, but unfortunately, the inks and paper often weren’t archival quality — especially with cheaper cartridges and paper. Over time, the photos can fade, discolour, and continue to degrade. We can usually correct the contrast and colours to restore your images. In more severe cases, it may be better to convert the image to black and white, with optional hand-colouring for a full restoration.
I don’t have a scanner — what can I do?
Ideally, find someone with a scanner to help you. However, if that’s not possible, you can take a digital photo of your picture. For best results:
Take the photo in natural light.
Hold the camera directly in front of the photo (“square on”) to avoid distortion.
Focus on getting a crisp, sharp image — it’s okay if the entire frame isn’t filled.
You may need to take several shots to get the best one.
How will I receive my restored photo?
We will email you a link to download your restored photo in various formats suited for both printing and screen use. If you prefer, we can also send the files on a USB drive by post or provide them directly to a professional print service of your choice.
When do I pay?
You don’t pay anything until you have approved the proof image. Once approved, we will send you an electronic invoice, and after payment is received, we will send you the final images.
How do I pay?
We primarily use PayPal for payment processing. You don’t need a PayPal account — you can pay securely using any major debit or credit card. Alternatively, we also accept bank transfers.
How much does it cost?
Our pricing is based on the time required for restoration. While we use A.I. tools where helpful, most of our work is done by hand. A detailed colourisation of a black and white photo can take many hours, while simpler tasks like repairing tears or creases may take much less time.
We provide a quote before starting any work, often including several options at different price points depending on the level of restoration you want. Once you approve the quote and later the proof image, that quoted price is what you’ll pay—no surprises.
Are there examples of your work available?
Yes! We regularly share examples of our restorations on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Photosfixedforyou
